Remembering Alpenrose at Garden Home History Project

Hayhurst Neighbor Association Board members attended the Garden Home History Project event in June and shared Alpenrose Dairy memorabilia. Soon, Friends of Alpenrose will set up a display at the Garden Home Library.
Sunday Parkways in Southwest!

On Sunday, May 17, Hayhurst volunteers were “Intersection Heroes” at the corner of SW Vermont and 34th, keepng cars away from pedestrians and cyclists enjoying an annual car-free experience crossing through our neighborhood. The Southwest event also ran through parts of Multnomah Village and Gabriel Park. It kicked off the 2026 Sunday Parkways season in Portland .
Traffic Safety Event: March 30

As students returned to school after spring break, it was hard to miss the “Slow Down” signs along SW Vermont Street the morning of March 30. A crew of neighborhood volunteers along with Portland City Councilors Olivia Clark, Mitch Green and Eric Zimmerman, plus State Representative Dacia Grayber, joined the third successful Traffic Safety event.
Volunteers waved signs to encourage drivers to slow down and yield at crosswalks in this 20 mph school zone. Organizers of the event included West Hills Montessori School in partnership with PBOT Safe Routes to School; Portland Police Bureau; District Four Coalition; and the Maplewood, Multnomah and Hayhurst Neighborhood Associations. Despite the visual reminders all along the road, officers from the Portland Police Bureau issued several warnings to speeding and crosswalk-rushing drivers. Let’s slow down for the kids!

US Census Data Workshops: February 18 Recording Available

Neighbors can learn how to use the most up-to-date US Census data from a US Census Bureau specialist at an ongoing series of virtual sessions. Census data is useful for grant writing, emergency planning, customer demographics for businesses and many other areas where you need to know more about your neighborhood.
The second in a series of US Census data workshops, sponsored by the Hayhurst and Hillsdale Neighborhood Associations, was held on Zoom on February 18.
A recording is available of the February 18 session about “Population, New Resident, and Language Data” at this link (passcode nF?T1T8e).
Handouts from the workshop are available here.
